The previous record set for the largest singing choir group was 4,745 participants. The Members Church of God International’s (MCGI) chorale beat this record last October 12, 2015 with its 8,688 singing participants.
The group’s Bible-based religious program, Ang Dating Daan or The Old Path, celebrated its 35th anniversary and did the feat in commemoration of the event at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, Quezon City, Philippines.
Meeting all the requirements laid out by the Guinness World Records, the group of thousands of singing members sang a medley of gospel songs, properly executed in a chorale manner. The successful attempt was overseen by Guinness World Records adjudicator, Judge Fortuna Burke Melhem. Philippine Congressman Neil Tupas served as witness to the event, while the attendance was verified by external auditing firm P & A Grant Thorton.
Judge Melhem presented the award on the same event and was received by Bro. Daniel Razon. Accepting the award he said, “This is something that we did not intend to do – to get the Guinness Book of World Records but our hearts intended to give thanks to God and we believe that this is an additional blessing that came from the Lord tonight as we thank him for the thirty five years of Ang Dating Daan television program. And so for that, we will always say, To God be the Glory.”
